Eowyn, a FO; Punch, a new WIP

Omistautuminen pelkästään Heatherille oli tietysti tuhoon tuomittu ajatus jo syntyessään. Heti kun olin päättävinäni jotain sen tyylistä, aloin vimmatusti haluta jotain uutta puikoille. USMP ja Cherie olivat poissa laskuista, koska en ole vielä neulonut mallitilkkua kummastakaan. Nauttiikohan muuten joku mallitilkkujen väsäämisestä? Minä en. Sitä paitsi mallitilkkujen neulominen ei ollenkaan helpota sitä tuskaista haluan-aloittaa-jotain-uutta-tällä-siunaaman-sekunnilla -tunnetta. Lisäksi niihin kuluu lankaa, ja kallisarvoista neulonta-aikaa.

Well, knitting Heather and only Heather was a mission impossible to start with. My fingers started itching to knit something new the minute I decided that I'm going to try to finish my poor neglected Heather sweater before casting on USMP or Cherie. But I couldn't start either of my dream sweaters, because I hadn't swatched for them – I dislike swatching, and it does not even ease the startitis pain – so, quickly, I needed something easier, something that does not require wasting yarn and time in knitted squares. (I do swatch, almost always. I just don't enjoy it.)



Pitkällisten pohdintojen jälkeen päätin jälleen kerran matkia Joyta (aion muuten tehdä ne tohvelit myös :-)), ja neuloin Eowyn-ranteenlämmittimet. Täydellinen pika-projekti! Lopputuloskin on aika kiva. Pakkasaamuina kädet ovat pysyneet mukavan lämpiminä. Olen tyytyväinen.

Eowyn wrist warmers to the rescue! Joy had just recently finished her beautiful pair, and they seemed like a quick thing to do. (I'm going to make those tweedy slippers too. What can I say, she's got a great taste in knits.) The wrist warmers were quick, and they are really cozy! I wore them to work today, and my hands were toasty warm, even though the weather was really cold this morning. Nice!



Tätäkään en ole tainnut vielä mainita? Kim Hargreavesin Punch (Rowanin lehdestä nro 27) sijoittuu kaikkien aikojen lempineulemallilistallani hyvin korkealle. Olen jo kertaalleen sen neulonutkin, mutta mallitilkku taisi silloin jäädä väliin, koska neuleesta tuli liian pieni. Onneksi se oli pienelle pikku-siskolleni sopiva.

Oppivaisena neulojana tein mallitilkun Punch-kakkosta varten jo kuukausia sitten. Kannattaisi tietysti myös merkitä siihen mallitilkkuun, millaisilla puikoilla täydellinen neuletiheys on saavutettu. Onneksi muistin oikein. Tästä taitaa tulla mukava projekti, lanka on kivan tuntuista, ja neulejälki näyttää tyydyttävän tasaiselta. Vähän häpeillen täytyy tunnustaa, että nautin suunnattomasti tälläisistä tylsistä haasteettomista neuletöistä. En ollenkaan kaipaa palmikoita enkä pitsiä, intarsiasta puhumattakaan. Oikein nurin riittää mainiosti. Täysin vakavalla naamalla voin kertoa, että minusta on kaikkein hauskinta neuloa aina vain oikein, ja ilman mitään kommervenkkejä. Siis huivi, ainaoikein = täydellinen neulekokemus. Säälittävää. En edes halua ajatella, mitä tämä minusta kertoo.

Oh. I haven't mentioned this either, have I? This is Punch, a Kim Hargreaves design from Rowan 27. I love this pattern, and I've already made it once before. It came out nice, but since I knitted it during my pre-swatching days, it also turned out to be too small. I had to give the sweater to my little sister, who liked it and was small enough.

So, Punch2: I had already swatched for it a couple of months ago. How clever is it to swatch and not write down the right needle size? Luckily I remembered right. I think I'm going to enjoy knitting this sweater (or cardigan, I haven't decided yet). The yarn feels pretty soft, and the fabric it creates looks nice and even. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I really enjoy knitting these boring stocking stitch sweaters. I don't need cables or lace or fancy (or any) colourwork to keep me interested, knitting and occasional purling is just fine for me. Or better yet: give me a garter stitch scarf, the ultimate knitting experience! Really, I'm serious. I am a sad excuse of a knitter.
