Granny Square Potholders
Yarn: Rowan Handknit dk Cotton and Novita Mini
Crochet hook: 4 mm
Neulontatauko on osoittautunut tuottoisaksi: nyt oli viimeinkin aikaa ja motivaatiota (hah!) ommella viimeiset isoäidintilkut pannulapuiksi. Pikkuisen virkkasinkin, mutta kipeä käsi ei ollut siitä moksiskaan, onneksi. Käsi voi jo paremmin, mutta pidän silti vielä toisen viikon neulomistaukoa, ja tietokoneeltakin yritän pysyä poissa (kuten nyt :-D). Kiitos kaikille paranemistoivotuksista ja myötätunnosta!
Yay for no knitting – I was finally forced to sew up these potholders. There was a tiny little bit of crocheting too, but luckily my hand didn't seem to mind. The hand, it is feeling better, but I'm gonna stay away from knitting for another week. Thank you so much for your well wishes and sympathy! I hope you understand that I haven't replied to your messages, I'm trying to stay away from the computer too. I really do, except for now.
Pannulapuista tuli aika kivat. Alunperin kaavailin näitä vanhempieni kesämökille, jonka mummonmökkityyliin ne sopisivat mielestäni oikein hyvin, mutta nyt houkuttelisi kyllä pitää edes yksi itselläni. Katsotaan nyt, tykkääkö äitini edes näistä, muussa tapauksessa olen varmaan pakotettu pitämään ne kaikki itse.
These potholders (I hope this is the right word, my dictionary failed me here. And what are the things you take hot things from oven with? Are they potholders too?) turned out quite nice, don't you think? I was thinking of giving them to my parents – I'm sure they would look lovely at their summer cottage – but now I'm kind of tempted to keep at least one to myself. Well, I'll just have to see how much my mom loves them. And if there's not enough love in sight I might have to keep them all to myself.
Tässä näkyvät kääntöpuolet. Suunnittelin lisääväni lappusten väliin kerroksen huopaa, mutta näistä tuli ilman huopaakin tosi jämäkät. Mukavat, jämäkät ja valmiit, jee! Ihan heti ei tässä blogissa esiinny uutta isoäidintilkkuprojektia, sen lupaan! Ei nyt ainakaan tänä vuonna…
Here are the reverse sides. I was gonna add a layer of felt in between the two squares, but it turned out not to be necessery, they are really sturdy as they are. Nice and sturdy, and done! I promise that this is definately the last granny square project you are gonna see here in this blog. At least for a little while.

so pretty - i love all the colors together. you should definitely keep one for yourself. And you are right - what you use to take out hot dishes from the oven or stove are potholders.

ps I think when it's being used to remove something it's a potholder and when something is sitting on it it's a hot pad and it could really be the same item.

Oh, I love these! They are really so cool. I love the "x" going through the squares....looks kind of like argyle. I agree with Kathy, when the thing is for putting a pot on, it's a "pad" or a "trivet". Although I think trivets are usually metal, with little feet to hold the pot up off the table. And potholders are for pulling things out of the oven. =D
Hei Terhi, todella hienoja pannulappuja! Pakko kysyä, että miten teit aloituksen - tein itse kesällä peiton vastaavista tilkuista enkä koskaan saanut aloitusta mielestäni tyydyttävän näköiseksi. Pylväät tein kyllä samalla tavalla kuin sinäkin. Ja et saa vastata pitkästi :)

These are so pretty! The colors are very cheerful, just as your log cabin baby blanket colors were.
I would probably call these small placemats if they are going to have plates put on them; if they are going to have serving dishes or bowls put on them I would call them hotpads or trivets, as Kathy and Julia said. Glad to hear that your hand is improving!
Did you use a pattern? or did you make it up? I would love to make these for my mother-in-law for christmas! Beautiful!
I have just seen a knitted and fabric potholder on http://www.homeliving.blogspot.com and that was great. Now I have seen yours and they are beautiful. Well done to make something that is beautiful and useful.

Oi miten on niin syötävän ihanan suloisen pirtsakoita nuo pannulappuset! Silmäkarkkia... :)
Olen ajatellut, että isoäidin neliöt on vähän tylsiä, mutta noista pannulapuista on tylsyys kaukana. Rakastan noita värejä, ja idea on loistava. Varmaan pitää itsekin kokeilla jämälangoilla tuota samaa (paitsi että mulla ei ole noin nätin värisiä jämälankoja... höh... oliskohan tässä syy ostaa lisää lankaa... :))

Aivan ihania neliöitä ovat ja tietysti niitä piti heti lähtee kopioimaan. Ongelman aiheutti se, että mistään en löytäny ohjeita just ton näkösille neliöille. Isoäidinneliö näyttäis perinteisesti olevan sellanen reikänen ja sullahan reijät on vaan kulmissa. Eli montako ketjusilmukkaa teet kulmiin ja montako pylvästä niihin kejuihin? Itse olen niin tumppu vielä, että kaikki laput käperty vähän joka suuntaan, vaikka kuinka yritin sun kuvien perusteella laskee pylväiden ja silmukoiden määrää :)
Eli jos se ei oo salaista tietoo, ni voisitko kertoa?

heather: I didn't use any specific pattern, because I'm really really bad at following crochet patterns. :-D But I think you can find one from any crochet book out there.
anonyymi: Kulmiin tein kaksi pylvästä + kolme ketjusilmukkaa + kaksi pylvästä. Toivottasti tästä on apua. :-)
