Keeping the family warm
The weather's been great for wearing handknits. Last weekend we went skating, and for the first time ever, I decided to wear my Norwegian Stockings. They are too thick to wear with boots, but just perfect with skates, and they kept my feet nice and warm. And stylish too, which is important especially when your skating skills leave a little something to be desired.
Onni skated too – obviously we both need some more practice. :-)

I've been on a smaller knits kick lately. I've knit a neckwarmer for mom (because she liked mine):

Wham Bam Thank You Lamb
by Insaknitty
Pattern source: Insaknitty (Ravelry link)
Yarn: two strands of Rowan All Seasons Cotton and one strand of Lopo Xavier Phoebus held together
Needles: 7 mm
Little socks for my goddaughter:

Kaffe Fassett Socks
Pattern: 52 sts
Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Design Line Kaffe Fassett, 1 x 50 g
Needles: 2,5 mm
And a hat for my sister:

Simple Pleasures Hat
by Whit's Knits
Pattern source: The Purl Bee
Yarn: Classic Elite Yarns Lush, 1,5 x 50 g
Needles: 4,5 and 5 mm
Modifications: cast on 86 sts
Hopefully these little knits keep my loved ones warm!

The little socks are wonderful and the yarn is lovely. I have a two year old daughter and finding wool socks in her size is next to impossible. I think I'll have to knit a pair for her too.
Thanks for reminding me that I have that very sock yarn! Your socks are lovely--sometimes self-striping does the trick:)
If you can wear thicker socks in your skates than in your boots, your skates may be too big! Tighter skates may work wonders on your skating abilities.
Ihania neuleita ihanista langoista. Meilläkin on luisteltu. Vanhoihin luistimiini ei mahdu kuin ohut puuvillasukka. Pitäisi investoida uusiin, jotta voisin käyttää luistellessa noin kauniita sukkia (tietty ne pitäisi ensin neuloa)
Everything is lovely. Your children are really cute! I've wanted to make that hat for awhile, and after seeing yours, I think I will!
Ooh, täydelliset luistelusukat! Jos kävis vaikka kerran luistelemassa tänä talvena, niin saisi todella hyvän syyn neuloa kirjoneulesukat =)
Wonderful socks, both the "skating socks" and the kid's sock. Nice pictures, too! /Annika
Thank you all so much! :-)
icicle: Socks for two year old will go really quickly too! :-D
The A.D.D Knitter: I've never really liked self-striping yarns, but now I'm totally hooked. I want more!
Krista: Oh, I think you're right, my skates are a bit big! But my feet are happier and warmer in thick socks.
Kristiina: Luistelu on kivaa, vaan kyllä siinä varpaat helposti paleltuu. Eli investoi vain uusiin! Mua vähän harmittaa, kun omat luistimeni ovat ihan hyvät, mutta kun haluaisin niin toteuttaa lapsuudenaikaisen unelmani punaisista luistimista... :-D
Poethead: Thanks! The hat pattern is a great one, really simple but flattering!
Kamicha: Eikös! :-D Pitäisi vaan olla sellainen vanhanaikainen kellohelmainen luisteluhamekin, nyt sukat jäävät harmillisesti toppahousujen alle piiloon.
Annika: Thank you!
Beautiful pictures! The socks are great. The coloured ones but also the ones in the skates.. So pretty!
Ooo, I bet that hat is soooo soft! These all look beautiful. And I love love love the socks with those skates. The perfect picture of winter! Enjoy!
So nice works you do, just wonderful ones! I love to make socks - but I have never made the kneesocks. But when I look your ones, maybe I have to try...
That's my favorite colorway of Kaffe Fassett yarn. Regia yarn is wonderful.
Valkoinen myssy on lämmittänyt monella tapaa. Kiitos siskopusu!
Thanks for reminding me all this fashion. I like them.
